SDN's 4th (and last?) single info & tracklistings

Oricon revealed information about this single that comes out on December 28th. The title is "Kudoki nagara Azabu Juuban duet with Mino Monta".  Mino Monta is a famous MC in Japan (he hosted the Japanese version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" for example). This song has an 8 member senbatsu, comprising of Sato Yukari, Kohara Haruka, Ohori Megumi, Noro Kayo, Serina, Urano Kazumi, KONAN, and Akita Kazue.

All current SDN members to graduate next March

Announced on stage and on the official blog, as of March 31st, 2012, all current SDN48 members will be graduating. As far as I know at this point, nothing has been announced about when or if auditions for new members will be held.

Unfortunately I can't translate the entry on the official blog because my wrist is messed up (long story, don't ask lol), but basically what I've written above is what it is.

A review of 10/2's "Yuuwaku no Garter" performance

I read about this and I figured I needed to share it with all of you. A friend of mine, Issa, recently arrived in Japan, and won a ticket to see Yuuwaku no Garter performed at the theater! It was an 8:30 show, meaning that it should have been the original, uncensored performance, but apparently it wasn't despite the hour it started...? Either way, it sounded amazing, so if you're interested in reading about Issa's experience at the theater, please check out her blog here!

SDN48's 1st stage, "Yuuwaku no Garter" on DVD!

(source: AKB48's official blog)

SDN48's 1st (and so far only, but that's another story) stage show will finally be released on DVD!

That's the good news.

The bad news is that it's only available as part of a box set (either one that contains EVERY show that was performed or one that also contains K4th, K5th, Himawari 2nd and A2nd), as it's being released as part of a series of concerts called "Minogashita Kimi-tachi he", which was a performance of every single AKB/SKE/SDN stage to date held back in late May-early June.

If you're interested in buying it and you live overseas, your only option is to use a shopping service (such as From Japan) or to have a friend in Japan buy it for you.

The page with more information about the DVDs is available here:

Everyday, Kachuusha translation

Lastly, this is SDN48's cover of AKB48's "Everyday, Kachuusha". Not much was changed other than sexier outfits (the tops are semi-transparent!) and a small change to the way the song is sung. I view this as kind of a fun little extra, since 8 of SDN's members used to be in AKB48 (or SKE48, in the case of Tezuka Machiko). Not all of those members participated in this song (going by the PV), but most of them did. For the curious, those members are Nonti, Meetan, Yukarin, Cindy, and Kyururun. Of course, there are other members of SDN participating as well.

Lastly, a note about the lyrics: I generally copy/paste (or write into notepad by hand) the lyrics and translate directly from those, preserving line breaks and everything. However, this song has a lot of line breaks

that make
it fairly
disjointed
when put
into English.

(LOL)

So I basically did what I wanted with the line breaks. I also "fixed" the lyrics where they repeat "Everyday" three times instead of "Every, Every, Everyday" which, I dunno about you, but that's what *I* hear when I listen to it.

Maybe I'm just getting old and going deaf. *shrug* LOL

Anyway, enjoy!

Abazure translation

And now, we have the Undergirls B track, found on Type A of the "MIN MIN MIN" single. This song tells us about a certain woman who can be found around Honmoku (a neighborhood in Yokohama), and who is the talk of the town. But, she might not be what she initially appears to be...

Onedari Champagne translation

This is the Undergirls A track which is included on both the Type A and Type B versions of the "MIN MIN MIN" single. To keep it short, it's the story of some cabaret girls.

"MIN MIN MIN" translation

This is the title track from SDN48's third single. "MIN MIN MIN" comes from the Japanese transliteration of the cry that cicadas make, which also tied into the theme of this track's PV and performance outfits. I've left any "MIN" in the lyrics as is, since I feel it flows better than translating it into English, which, quite frankly, would just be a hot mess. LOL

"MIN MIN MIN" first day on Oricon!

MIN MIN MIN was released today (well, yesterday if you take the time difference into account... eh, anyway XD) and managed to secure 2nd place on the Oricon daily single charts with 57,686 copies!

Meanwhile, I found lyrics and I'll be posting up translations of the songs shortly. :3

Also, a reminder, but please buy the single if you haven't already!

3rd generation profiles!

Heads up if you haven't seen them already! The official site has updated the members list with profiles (which includes a headshot and an almost full body shot) of each of the new 3rd generation members. Well, the ones that are still in the group, anyway, lol.

Anyway, go check it out! Especially Hana's Sorry, oshi bias. XD

And now a word from our sponsors...

See, having a blog is great. Cause if you start another blog, you can promote the new one on the older one. :D

One of my favorite parts about this blog is translating SDN lyrics as we get them, but I also enjoy other ~48 groups besides SDN. Of course, I can't very well go posting AKB or SKE lyrics here, so...

I made a general lyrics blog. (・ω・)ノ

SDN lyrics will still be here (since comparatively, SDN still has a fairly small database of songs... plus, I think lyrics might be one of the main drawing points to Ganbariina! ^^;;;), but if you're also a fan of other ~48 groups or their subgroups, then "At the ◯◯◯48 theater..." may well be another blog you'll enjoy!

Of course, I'll continue to run this blog as well. ^^ I just figure this way I can have something else to do when SDN isn't doing a whole lot for me to update with.

Hayakawa Sayo withdraws from SDN48

Only ~2 months into activities with SDN48, Hayakawa Sayo has announced that she will withdraw from the group. No reason was given for Sayo's decision to leave.

Uh... well, we hardly knew ye? Literally. D:

MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN MIN MIN MIN MIN MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

Ooops, looks like I forgot to update again. D:

Well, old news by now, but hey, SDN is coming out with a new single! The A-side is cicada themed all around (costumes, set, title, lyrics) and is called "MIN. MIN. MIN". See, that's why the title of this entry is what it is. It's not crickets chirping, it's cicadas! :D

SDN48 finally lifts the age restriction! (Well, partially...)

In a recent blog post on the AKB48 blog, in addition to talking about the last day of AKB48's "Minogashita Kimi-tachi he" concert series (where they've been performing all former and current stages over 20 days), Togasaki finally announced the start date for SDN shows with NO AGE RESTRICTION! \:D/

I've translated the relevant part of the entry below.
"And the other day, we made it possible so that underage fans can also see SDN48's "Yuuwaku no Garter" stage if the shows start at 7PM (or earlier) by making a few changes to the performance.
However, shows that start after 8:30PM will continue to have the 18+ age restriction, so please don't confuse them.
As for buying tickets, you'll still apply ahead of time using E-mail.
As far as not allowing those under 18, or high school students, to see SDN48 shows, as of June 16th, we'll allow them to watch shows that start at 7PM (or earlier).
To check the start time, please check the SDN48 official schedule.
Ticket fees (tax included):
18+ 3,000 yen
Under 18 2,000 yen"
Hopefully LODs aren't too far behind? :D

Tanisaki Tomomi graduates

And the trend of SDN members dropping like flies continues, as we've now lost 2nd generation member Tanisaki Tomomi (aka "Bambi").  She didn't specify what she'd do after graduating, only saying that she'll continue to chase her dreams in a different way than she has been until now.

A fangirl's ode to her oshimen

No, it's not mine to Nonti (or Hana XD), but rather SKE48 Team S member Matsui Rena's gushing entry about the return of Hana. We knew she was a huge fangirl ever since Hana's graduation concert came out on DVD (where, in part of the making of, we saw Rena fangirling after getting to meet Hana face to face for the first time). And, much like myself, Rena couldn't contain herself after hearing the news.

So, anyway, here's my translation of Rena's fangirling. XD

SDN48 3rd gen debuts!

SDN48's third generation debuted today! You can check out the 3rd. gen page up at the top to learn more about them.  But, to briefly introduce them, the 7 third generation members are:

Hayakawa Sayo
miray
Siyeon
Shinahama Saemi
Kojo Seara
Komatani Hitomi
Tojima Hana

Do the last two sound familiar? Tojima Hana and Komatani Hitomi were both part of AKB48's 1st generation, but they graduated in November, 2008, along with Nakanishi Rina, Ohe Tomomi, and Narita Risa. It had actually been rumored last year that Hana was interested in returning to the 48 family as a part of SDN, which I was tempted to dismiss as too good to be true.

But clearly it wasn't. ;___;

Hana was my very first oshimen (term used to describe being a big fan of a member) and when she announced her graduation I was pretty crushed. I moved on, though, since I still loved AKB, and found Noro Kayo, who, of course, was put into SDN as the captain. XD  Still, this is FANTASTIC news, and I'd like to say "Welcome back!" to both Hana and Hitomi (or "Hiichan").

The 3rd generation members
(L-R: Hitomi, Hana, Seara, Sayo, Siyeon, miray, Saemi)
(I'm still working on identifying them, so sorry for any mistakes.f m(_ _)m If you spot one, please tell me!)

On that note, if you check out the 3rd generation's page and know any of the information I'm missing (especially in the case of Siyeon, who I know literally NOTHING about and can find no information on) and can leave a comment here to tell me, I'd definitely appreciate it!

Suppon no Onnatachi 2 update!

Again, you really should be watching these if you aren't. D:  But here's results for the 2nd round of battles. After this, we're left with only 8 remaining members!

Ninomiya Yuka graduates from SDN48

I only found out about this today, unfortunately. ~_~ Sorry I wasn't able to report it earlier.

Ninomiya Yuka has announced that as of the 12th of this month, she has graduated from SDN48 to pursue a career in theater.

Suppon no Onnatachi 2! Summary of episodes 1-4

So, as you've (hopefully) read from a previous entry, Suppon no Onnatachi became Suppon no Onnatachi 2, and the girls were signed up to participate in a tournament.

When I had written my post, I still hadn't gotten a chance to see the first episode, so I wasn't sure what this tournament was, exactly.  However, since then, I've seen episodes 1, 2, 3, and 4 (which are the only ones out at the time of this post), and WOW.  You don't need really any Japanese to comprehend what's going on in these episodes, other than to know this:

If a member loses her matchup, she has to leave the set and she will not be seen at least until the tournament itself has ended.

So that's pretty rough. D:  Anyway,  you really should just watch these episodes for yourself, but under the cut, I'll give a brief explanation of the different events, and the results of the matchups.

"Ai, Chuseyo" sales update!

The second single from SDN48, "Ai, Chuseyo" debuted at #1 on it's first day on the Oricon charts, selling 50,604 copies!

Unfortunately, it then dropped to #6 today, with an estimate (meaning, not a final number) of ~5,000 sales. orz

Of course, there are plenty of reasons to explain that drop.

First, as you should all be aware, Japan is still trying to recover from the earthquake that hit on March 11th, and buying CDs is probably the last thing on most people's minds right now.

Additionally, when the release was postponed from March 23rd to April 6th, that didn't stop it from being released onto Japanese iTunes. So, many people who might have gone to buy a physical copy could have decided to download it from iTunes instead. Of course, that's good since they still get the money, but it's bad since it won't show up on Oricon's charts. But with power outages, disrupted lines of transit, and etc, we can't really blame people for choosing to get it the easier way, can we?

Still, it doesn't matter if they sell 1 copy or 1 million copies. What does matter is that we support them as their fans.

Ai yo Ugokanai de translation

Lastly, we've got the 3rd song on the Type B version of "Ai, Chuseyo". This song is SDN48's first solo song, and it's by "Rachel", otherwise known as Nishikunihara Reiko (Rachel is her nickname). She's SDN48's oldest member, and she is a fantastic singer. This song is a beautiful, touching, ballad, and it probably speaks for itself better than I can, so please check it out!

Enjoy!

Awajishima no Tamanegi translation

I'm on a roll! \:D/

Anyway, the Undergirls B song (featured on the Type A single), "Awajishima no Tamanegi" ("Awaji Island's Onions") is kind of like Sado he Wataru in that it features another location in the title, lol. So, before you read the lyrics, check out Wikipedia's informative article about Awajishima.

There's another tricky part, where they talk about onions from Hawaii. This doesn't translate so well into English, so I'll explain that part briefly now. In the lyrics, they use the English word "onion" to talk about Hawaii's onions. However, after that they say, "But in Japan, they're tamanegi (Japanese for "onion"). So it's kind of a play with words, resulting in the translation coming out sounding a little odd.

Anyway, enough of my babbling. XD Enjoy!

Tengoku no Door wa 3kaime no Bell de Aku translation

Here's the lyrics for the song by Undergirls A, "Tengoku no Door wa 3kaime no Bell de Aku" (The Door To Heaven Will Open On The Third Ring")!

This song is about... well, to put it bluntly, a whore house. XD Essentially, the song is being sung from the point of view of someone introducing a new patron to the house.

There's some french in the middle of the song, but I don't understand it at all, and it wasn't in the lyrics, but if anyone wants to take a stab at translating it, I'll be more than happy to edit it in with credit to you.

Enjoy!

Suppon no Onnatachi ends, and...

As you may have heard, SDN48's first weekly program, Suppon no Onnatachi, ended last week.  This week, in it's place, we get "Suppon no Onnatachi 2".

And, much like how Suppon no Onnatachi started, we've got a competition!

This time, the girls will compete against each other bracket-style.

The bracket (click for larger)

For those curious about who is going up against who, here's the romanized version.  All matches have been organized according to block, and then in the order they're shown on the bracket (from left to right).

A Block
1 - Sato Yukari vs Serina
2 - Kaida Juri vs Chen Qu
3 - Oyama Aimi vs Kohara Haruka
4 - Ito Mana vs Matsushima Rumi

B Block
1 - Tezuka Machiko vs Akita Kazue
2 - KONAN vs Fujikoso Yumi
3 - Umeda Haruka vs Mitsui Hiromi
4 - Kimoto Yuki vs Aikawa Yuki vs Imayoshi Megumi

C Block
1 - Noro Kayo vs Hosoda Miyu
2 - Hatakeyama Chisaki vs Okouchi Misa
3 - Ninomiya Yuka vs Nishikunihara Reiko
4 - Ohori Megumi vs Kouchi Masami vs Fukuda Akane

D Block
1 - Urano Kazumi vs Tsuda Marina
2 - Takahashi Yui vs Tanisaki Tomomi
3 - Kato Mami vs Kondo Sayaka
4 - Nachu vs Natsuko vs Akiko

I haven't had a chance to see this week's episode yet, but going from the preview on the official site, it looks like Suppon no Onnatachi 2 will be a really fun show. :D

SDN48 - Ai, Chuseyo translation

Now that the long-awaited second SDN48 single is finally out, I'm going to be working on finding lyrics for the songs to translate for you all!  It might take a while, though, so please be patient. m(_ _)m

First, I've got the title track, "Ai, Chuseyo".  Chuseyo is Korean for "Please" (or if you're familiar with Japanese, it's like "kudasai").  Luckily this one has a lot less Korean than GAGAGA, so I made it through with my pathetic Korean skills, lol.  Anyway, enjoy!

A present for you all!

So, to sort of make up for being gone for so long, here's a treat for all of you!

Over at blog48, a community on Livejournal where a group of us are translating ***48 member's blog entries, I've decided to take charge of translating Nonti's blog, as well as Sayanee's blog.  Kazue's and CinDy's blogs are being translated as well, so you should head over and check it out!

Here are the tags to help you find their entries more easily:

Kazue's blog
CinDy's blog
Sayanee's blog
Nonti's blog

Hope you enjoy!  If you're interested in helping out for other members, the help is definitely appreciated!  Check out this thread on S48 and post if you want to help translate!  Don't forget to mention which member(s) you want to translate for, though. XD

IT LIIIIIIIIIIIIVES

It's been about 3 months, but how are you all?

Now that I'm finally finished with school, I'm going to be re-opening Ganbariina!

Miss me? XD

Anyway, a quick rundown of what's happened in the past 3 months (in no real order):

1) SDN48 3rd generation auditions!
- The deadline for this closed on the 19th, so hopefully we'll find out who our new members are soon!  There had been a rumor going around that former AKB48 1st generation member Tojima Hana would be auditioning, but keep in mind that it's just a rumor.  Of course, if she did get in I'd die because she was my very first oshimen but anyway. XDDD

2) SDN48's 2nd single "Ai, Chuseyo"!
- The title is a mix of Japanese and Korean, which comes out as "Please Give Me Love".  It was set to be released on March 23rd (actually that's today in Japan), but it was pushed back following the massive earthquake/tsunami that happened on March 11th.  We're not sure when it will be released now.  However, it's been released on (Japanese) iTunes

- However, in the meanwhile, the PVs for the title track, "Ai, Chuseyo" and the Undergirls A track, "Tengoku no Door wa Sankaime no Bell de Aku" ("The Door to Heaven Will Open On The Third Ring") have come out.  Yet to be seen are the Undergirls B track, "Awajishima no Tamanegi" ("The Awaji Island Onion"), and Rachel's (Nishikunihara Reiko) solo, "Ai yo, Ugokanai de" ("Love, Please Don't Move")

3) SDN48 1st Generation member Ito Kana graduated due to poor health following a bout with the flu.  Hopefully one day we'll be able to see her (along with Fukuyama Sakura) again.  We'll miss you, Kananyan!

4) There have also been whisperings of an announcement set for today (the 23rd), but with the 2nd single being pushed back, who knows what the announcement will be, or when we'll actually hear it.  Personally, I've got my fingers crossed for a release of the 1st stage DVD/CD.  Them removing the age restriction so that we can get LODs would be good too...  Well, let's wait and see, shall we?
