Announcement

First, I hope that everyone is enjoying the holidays.

Unfortunately, I've got bad news: I'm shutting down "Ganbariina!".

I don't think it wound up being very useful since most of the info I reported had already come out in other places. Additionally, I just didn't have time to do what I had really wanted to do with the site, which was show summaries, or introducing the members (specifically the lesser known ones) so that people could get to know SDN better. For that, I have to apologize.

I hope that all of you will continue to support SDN as they continue to work hard at chasing their dreams.

PS: I won't be deleting the blog, so you can still come to review old posts, etc.  It's possible that, in the future, if I have time I'll be able to continue, but I honestly have no idea.

皆さん、

今年の最後を楽しんでいただけていますでしょうか。

残念ながら、ここでお知らせがあります。「Ganbariina!」

Nonti and Meetan on Akimoto Sayaka and Miyazawa Sae's Ukkari Channel (AKB48)

If any of you also check out SaeYaka Paradise (it's in my blog roll to the side :D), you've seen this already, but as a courtesy, I'll post this here, as well.

On the 18th and 25th of November, Nonti and Meetan were guests on the weekly radio show "Ukkari Channel", hosted by AKB48 Team K's Akimoto Sayaka and Miyazawa Sae.  Neither Nonti or Meetan are strangers, since they all used to be on Team K before the shuffle and permanent transfer to SDN48.  So, they get kind of noisy and crazy at times (OK, that might be an understatement).

If you haven't already, read the summaries at SaeYaka Paradise (thanks Ange! :3)

Episode 7 (Episode 1/2 of Nonti/Meetan guest appearance)
Episode 8 (Episode 2/2 of Nonti/Meetan guest appearance)

Ganbariina!: New portable size! :D

Ever been trying to read the blog on a mobile device, like an iPod touch (or whatever) and found yourself squinting, zooming in and out, etc?  Well NO MORE! :D  The good people at Blogger introduced a mobile template, which I've enabled.  You apparently have the option to switch out of it, should you choose, but hopefully this will make browsing the blog easier.

Stay tuned for one more update today, and until then, keep GAGAGA-ing! :D

GAGAGA Oricon update (weeks 1, 2, and 3)

I know, I'm really late on this. ,____,  I got really busy right around the time GAGAGA was released and I just couldn't seem to find time to update.

Anyway, most of you probably know, but it managed to come in 3rd on the weekly chart, selling 63,627 copies.  Since then it's hit 23rd and 37th on the weekly chart(s), and has sold 71,714 copies total.  Not too shabby, eh? :D

A poll!

With a week having passed since GAGAGA was released, I thought this might be fun. :D  What's your favorite song from the GAGAGA single?  Is it the elbow-y "GAGAGA"?  The earnest "Kodoku na Runner"?  The spy chic "Eros no Trigger"?  Or, is it the stocking ripping "Sado he Wataru"?  Let me know in the poll that you can find in the sidebar!  The poll will be open for one week, ending at 2:00 PM (PST) on Tuesday/7:00 AM on Wednesday (JST).

I'll try to come up with more polls in the future if you all like this. :D

Sado he Wataru translation

And here's Undergirls B with Sado he Wataru!  Personally, I like this one better than Eros no Trigger (although I like both songs).  This one has more cultural references in it, so when one pops up for the first time, I've included a link to a relevant Wikipedia article so you can read more about it.  I think this is generally better than me including a long-winded explanation. XD

Eros no Trigger translation

I finally found lyrics for these, so here are the translations for the two Undergirls songs found on the GAGAGA single!  Of course I've already translated GAGAGA, and the other b-side, Kodoku na Runner, is a stage song so it's already been translated.  I'll post Sado he Wataru's translation in a few minutes as well. :D

Anyway, here we go!

Yet another GAGAGA Oricon update!

After hanging steady at #4 for two days, the girls have dropped to #5 for the last two days.  We only have a few days left before we find out how much they sold and what rank they got this week.  Let's keep supporting them through the rest of this week and through the weeks to come! :D

GAGAGA Oricon update!

For those in the US, Happy Thanksgiving!  For everyone else, Happy Thursday. XD

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but after GAGAGA took #1 on the first day, it's been at #4 the past few days.  Unfortunately, we don't know how much it's sold because Oricon only posts numbers for the first three spots.  However, we can say that it's sold under 14,618 and under 9533 on Tuesday and Wednesday's charts.

Even though they've slipped a little, their position has remained steady so far.  Let's hope they have a good rest of the week!

Oricon update!

Time has flown, and GAGAGA has finally been released.  Oricon posted the daily numbers and...

GAGAGA GOT #1 ON THE DAILY CHART WITH 34,348 COPIES SOLD!

I didn't think I was going to cry, but... ;________;

Seriously, go check it out for yourself, here: http://www.oricon.co.jp/rank/js/d/

I'll continue to keep you updated every day with updated rankings and numbers.  Remember, go buy GAGAGA if you haven't yet (and even if you can't now, do it when you can).

SDN48 GAGAGA translation

Well, first... I have to confess that I don't really speak Korean at all.  So I threw those parts into a (Japanese) Korean -> Japanese translator to try and make some sense of them.  If anyone wants to contribute a better translation of those parts, please do.  I've left the Korean in parenthesis for that purpose, but I'll take it out if/once a more accurate translation appears.

EDIT: I fixed it now with some help from a Yahoo news article. XD  But I could still use help with the Korean, so go ahead and leave me a comment if you can help!

EDIT #2: Fixed the first part of the Korean with help from a Japanese translation of the lyrics displayed during their performance on PON!, but could still use help with the second part!

Coming soon: SDN to finally not be 18-only

As some of you (or most of you) are aware, during the "Surprise wa Arimasen!" concert this past July, Nontii made an announcement: SDN48 shows will drop the 18+ restriction, without toning down (much?) of the content.  And a few days ago, in the AKB48 official blog, Theater Manager Togasaki said the words that (lead up to the words that) we've all been waiting for:

They're going to make an announcement about the date that the change will take place shortly.

Why does this matter for overseas fans since we can't really go to the theater anyway?  It means we might (*fingers crossed*) actually get to see LODs of the Yuuwaku no Garter stage.  If nothing else, it means more exposure for SDN since younger fans (like those who might have been fans of the original AKB/SKE members who were transferred into SDN) can go see their oshimen again.

Just a quick update

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii guys. XD

So I realize there's been a lot going on (more TV shows, Suppon no Onnatachi's reformatting, previews for Eros no Trigger and Sado he Wataru) but unfortunately grad school is eating my life right now.  I literally have a huge project due every week from now until the end of the month, so I haven't had a lot of time to focus on updating (including posting about November birthdays, unfortunately).

So stay tuned, and I'll hopefully be able to come back with some amazing stuff closer to GAGAGA's release!

"GAGAGA" to be released simultaneously in Japan and Korea

So, did something catch your ear while listening to GAGAGA?  Something like, Korean lyrics, plus a sound that seems to borrow from KPOP?

Well, there's an app for that a good reason for that:

AkiP (otherwise known as Akimoto Yasushi, the general producer of the official ◯◯◯48 groups, has announced that GAGAGA will be released simultaneously in both Japan and Korea.  Planning for that, he had a Korean composer work on the song, and also added in the Korean rap section you all heard (or maybe will keep an ear out for now).  The concept of the song was "JPOP that's aiming for KPOP".

Well, I'm not sure how well they'll do in Korea (of course I wish them success), and I'm frankly more concerned with how they'll be received in Japan, but good luck with your international debut, SDN48!

Wow, I didn't think I'd be saying "international debut" so soon. XD

GAGAGA PV is out!

Before I get into the main part of this entry, I'd first like to say that we have the type A & B covers, thanks to Jasey at S48 for the heads up.

On the left, we have type A, and on the right, type B.

I... kind of want to do color correction on them. XDD

Now, back to your regularly scheduled entry.
---------------------------------------------------
So, the GAGAGA PV was finally released.

Seriously, go, check it out if you haven't already. I'll be here, you can come back when you're done.

*waits*

GAGAGA PV preview!

ALERT!

SDN48's PV for "GAGAGA" will premiere on today (Wednesday's) "PON!", which airs on Nihon TV (日本テレビ) at 10:25 AM JST.  Check it out if you're able!

Why did I have to go and have a class on Tuesday night again? >.>

GAGAGA radio preview

Well, we've FINALLY gotten a radio preview, and let me just say...

You guys.

This. Is. AMAZING.

I should have seen it coming when the president of UMJ told them not to lose to the Korean groups.

They're going to try and beat them at their own game.

If you're interested in checking out the song for yourself, I suggest trying the SDN48 section of one of the big overseas AKB48 forums.  You could also try YouTube, but they're so fast at getting stuff removed, I wouldn't place my bets there.

A proper UMJ website and a (95%) finalized tracklist!

If you haven't seen it already: http://www.universal-music.co.jp/sdn48/index.html

In addition to this, we finally get a full, 100% complete tracklist for the single.

More 1st single news!

Oh my, two updates already this morning!  Well, to be fair, I could have tacked this onto my last one, but whatever. :P

The titles for the type-exclusive songs on SDN48's 1st single have been revealed!

"Eros no Trigger" - Undergirls A
"Sado he Wataru" - Undergirls B

We've got a (very short) preview of "GAGAGA"!

I happened to run across this as I was checking out videos of AKB48's "Aki Matsuri".  This should stay up since it's an official press video.  At 2:32, we get a (short, roughly 40 second) preview of "GAGAGA".  I've purposely linked it a few seconds before that if you're like me and need a couple seconds for Flash to get all nice and happy before everything runs super smoothly.

Enjoy!

SDN48 debut single! And the title is...

SDN48 performed their first single on Saturday as part of the AKB48 Aki Matsuri.  The title of their single is "GAGAGA".  We also have a peek at the outfits, and an idea of the choreography.

1st single senbatsu and Sakuran update

Since Sakuran is retiring, Togasaki announced that based on "a general evaluation of performance, visuals and motivation", that Chen Qu will take the place of Fukuyama Sakura for the single.

He also noted that he's been getting a lot of questions from fans about whether Sakuran is (permanently) graduating from SDN or just taking a break.  He said that he'll let Sakuran's will take precedence, and as soon as a decision is made, he'll inform the fans.

October's girls

This month, I'll be giving you an (unintentionally) intimate look at SDN48's October birthdays.  Why do I say "(unintentionally) intimate"?  Well, to answer the first part...

... there are only two October birthdays. ^^;;;

As for why it's a more intimate look, well...

Fukuyama Sakura to leave SDN48

This hit me as kind of a surprise upon waking up this morning.  I've translated the entry from her blog below the cut.  Be forewarned, it is long, so if you're hoping to read it all, make sure you've got a little time (or that you read really fast XD).

Suppon no Onnatachi 9/22/2010

I finally got my hands on this!  Unfortunately, it's a YouTube version, so no screen shots for now.  As I understand it, a version has been uploaded to H!O, so I should hopefully be able to download it and edit this with some screen shots soon-ish.

Anyway, this week's episode was a bit more "behind the scenes" of the senbatsu announcement.  We get to hear some comments from both members that were selected, and those who didn't make the cut.

Thursday, September 23, 2010

So, what now?

Well, as you'll notice, all the lyrics from the Yuuwaku no Garter stage have been translated.  Meanwhile, this week's Suppon no Onnatachi isn't up yet (still keeping my fingers crossed for that one) is now up on YouTube.  So, for the next few entries, I'll be summarizing the first two episodes of SDN48+10, as well as the latest episode of Suppon no Onnatachi.  But, given that most of those SDN48+10 were taken up by self-introductions, and I'm saving that information for my monthly member promotion post, it's not going to take long to get through these three videos.

And, ladies and gentlemen, this is where you come in.  Is there anything SDN48 related you'd like to see covered?  Keeping in mind it has to be something I can actually get my hands on.  It can be a TV show, a news article... you can even ask my opinion on (topic of your choice) re: SDN48.

Basically, this is me with a massive case of writer's block.  Give me ideassssssss~

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 14

OK, I won't lie: the first time I read the title to this song last year, I immediately thought of AKB Kagekidan's Infinity, and figured AkiP must be going through a vampire phase.  It's also strangely fitting as there are bats living outside my dorm and can hear their screeching every night. ¬¬

Anyway, with this song, it's the last of the lyrics for now. :(  So make sure you savor this one!

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 13

We're almost at the end of the stage.  This song is "Touhikou".  It can mean to escape or elope, but given some of the dialogue, I went with the latter definition.  Speaking of the dialogue, while the official lyrics have it in Japanese, it's usually done by Chen Qu, who does it in Chinese.  However, from what I've read, if Kondo Sayaka does it, she does the dialogue in English, since she's fluent (something we'll get into another time).  Anyway, enjoy!

A programming note

This week's Suppon no Onnatachi won't be coming from it's regular source, meaning I can't do a summary on it until someone else uploads it.  I can still do a summary if I have a streaming (YouTube, Youku, etc) version, although I may skip screencaps in that case.

So, if anyone can find a version of it, streaming or not, please leave a comment here.  Thank you.

EDIT, 9/23/10: I've managed to find it on YouTube!

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 12

Tonight, we've got my second favorite SDN48 song, "Kodoku na Runner".  This was the first song of theirs that I heard, actually, so it holds a special place for me.  This is the other song that I think is very representative of SDN48.  It was also confusing to translate because in parts it is (I believe) referring to a "you", where as in others, they very clearly say "I".  Since that's the case, I will give you my apologies in advance if I've gotten mixed up in a few spots. XD

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 11

Lastly tonight, we've got the ballad before the encore, "Aisareru Tame ni".  I absolutely love this song, even when I had only heard the first part of it, so being able to hear the whole thing and read the beautiful lyrics is absolutely fantastic.  If you can find it on YouTube or another similar service, go look it up.

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 10

Next up tonight, we've got the song "Best by..."  I'll admit, I had a different idea of what the song was about until I saw the lyrics.  It's songs like this that make me love AkiP's lyrics.  He picks a theme and just runs with it so well. XD

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 9

Sorry for not posting for a few days, I was a bit busy.  Anyway, here's the next song from the Yuuwaku no Garter stage, "Futsuu no Anata".

Suppon no Onnatachi 9/15/2010

On this week's episode of Suppon no Onnatachi, we got a behind-the-scenes look at the girls reactions as they watched the previous week's episode live in the AKB Theater.

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 8

Tonight, we've got one of the songs that I feel really represents who SDN48 are as a group, and also the inspiration for this blog's title, "Ganbariina".  I really like this one (obviously, I named the blog after it XD), but not just because it's catchy: I like this song because I think it really defines who SDN48 are as a group.  Anyway, check it out for yourself! :P

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 7

There's a bit of wordplay in this next song, "Jajauma Lady".  Namely, in the second verse.  I've explained it below the translation itself.  This song features (so I hear) Meetan running around with a whip, so what's not to love? XD

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 6

Tonight, we've got the song, "All In".  I love this one, although that could partially be bias because Nontii's in it. XD  But no, it's a very cool sounding song, and I'm sure I'd like it even if Nontii wasn't there. XD

Well, enough of my rambling...

New addition to the profile pages

Hopefully you've all at least glanced at the profile pages by now, but I've added a new feature: Each girl's Gree blog, plus their Ameba blog (if they have one) has been added just below their name.  Even if you don't understand Japanese, sometimes the pictures alone can be fairly entertaining. XD

As a side note, if you do understand Japanese (or don't, but don't care) you can leave comments on the Ameba blogs if you have an Ameba account (if you've ever played Ameba Pigg, you already have an account).  Some people have said posts don't seem to go through if they're all in English, so you might want to try inserting one of Ameba's text-based smileys into your comment if you're not writing it in Japanese - however, bear in mind that, aside from Sayanee, none of the girls are exactly what you'd call "fluent" in English, so try to keep it on the simple side.

You can also leave comments on the Gree blogs, but only if you have a Japanese cell phone with a valid email address from a Japanese service provider.  Which is pretty silly since they give you the option to say that you live overseas in the sign up form, but oh well.

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 4

I might be a bit busy tomorrow, so in preparation for that, although it's a bit early, I'll move on to the next song from the stage. This is the title song, "Yuuwaku no Garter".

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 3

Remember what I said a few posts back about some of these songs being filled with innuendo, and don't click if you're offended by that sort of thing?  Keep that in mind for this next song. XD  This is one of the few songs that has been performed in larger concerts, so you may have seen it already.  This is "Black boy".

SDN48 on Show Battle!

Show Battle is a TV show where a team led by the duo London Boots and a team led by the duo Tutorial face off while following a theme.  This time, the theme was parodies.  SDN48 was playing for the Tutorial team, while Torii Miyuki was playing for London Boots.

September's girls

Tonight, I'm going to introduce a little running column of sorts.  Every month, I'll introduce the members who will have their birthday, and tell you a bit about them so you can get to know them even if you haven't been caught up with their TV shows, Suppon no Onnatachi and SDN48+10.  I plan to do this around the first of each month, but since I just started the blog, this month's entry has come a little later than usual.

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations part 2

Tonight, we've got the second song in the "Yuuwaku no Garter" stage.  This one is called, "Never!"

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Yuuwaku no Garter stage song translations

Yay, my first feature! *claps*

To help spread the SDN48 love, I'm going to translate their stage songs one at a time.  If you're offended by subtle (or overt, in some cases) innuendo, I'd suggest not clicking the "read more" link.  Although, personally, I think this first one is pretty tame...

Anyway, let's get this party started!  First up, it's "Saturday night party"!

SDN48 first single senbatsu!

On September 8th, 2010, the 12 senbatsu members for the first single were revealed. They are:

2nd - Sato Yukari (1st gen.)
3rd - Noro Kayo (1st gen.)
4th - KONAN (2nd gen.)
5th - Urano Kazumi (1st gen.)
6th - Umeda Haruka (1st gen.)
7th - Serina (1st gen.)

9th - Kohara Haruka (1st gen.)
10th - Ito Kana (1st gen.)
11th - Akita Kazue (1st gen.)
12th - Fukuyama Sakura (2nd gen.)

The single will be released on November 24th.

Welcome!

Welcome to "Ganbariina!", an SDN48 fanblog.

Some of you less familiar with AKB48 and it's sister groups may wonder who SDN48 is, so to start, here's a short introduction.
